[Because the angry elf is definitely saying it like he should know the name. Is 'Varric' supposed to be some world leader or such? Justice is still vague on things like that.]
[Well. Maybe Varric would be okay with one person not knowing his name, as long as it is specifically this one person.]
If you say so. [Justice is skeptical. Thedas is a big place. Who can really be so big that most people from Thedas would know their name?] What is he? [A foreign leader? 'Varric' sounds dwarven, and Justice is pretty sure there aren't any countries with a dwarven leader except Orzammar. But what does he know? He's only been in the mortal world for a few months.]
I see. [Justice can appreciate the value in being good with people, especially as someone who's generally horrid with people.] And he no longer owns this establishment?
[So either he gave it to someone else or he was present and he's not anymore. But seriously, he would not have guessed that a foreign leader would move on to own a bar when taken to a new world.]
[Justice likes meeting new people. Unless they happen to be amoral, but for the most part, he's met good mortals.]
Where are you from? You have tattoos, but they are not Dalish. [And they literally have lyrium in them. They are singing right now. Justice turns the ring on his finger--the lyrium in it is raw and drowns out the comparatively soft song in the angry elf's skin, but he can still hear it.]
[Fenris bristles at the question, instantly put on guard. This is not his favourite subject in the world, but he understand people's curiosity about them. Even if he doesn't like it.]
Tevinter. I was a slave there, my former master branded me with lyrium. That'swhat they are.
[At least Justice could see he isn't Dalish- that's always a bonus point in his favour. ]
A slave? [Justice does not like this. No, he does not like this at all. His brow furrows and his frown deepens. Slavery is a grave injustice, and branding a person with lyrium is absolutely barbaric.] That is horrible. What was this Tevinter's name?
[If he's still alive, Justice wants to know on the off chance he meets this person.]
Good. [The fact that this man is dead pleases Justice, because now he will be unable to do anything so horrible ever again. Hopefully, he died in a way that properly avenged those he had harmed in life.] I know of a Tevinter mage here who is considering how he might change his homeland. Perhaps he may be worth talking to.
[Then again, the angry elf may be like the other angry elf Justice knows and have trouble dealing at all with humans (or, in this case, Tevinters).]
[His tone is pretty level. He hasn't made his mind up about Dorian yet. Jury's still out on that one.]
He has a lot of good ideas- I am just doubtful he will ever manage to change Tevinter. It is what it is. So long as they continue to profit on the backs of slaves and that those who are not afraid of blood magic are allowed to rule- things will not change.
Tevinter was not always as it is now, but it will stay this way if people do not fight to change it. All evil needs to succeed is for good to give up.
[Justice has seen the echoes and memories of a Tevinter Imperium before it was the Tevinter Imperium, back when it was a loose tribe clustered around what is now Minrathous. It has not always been steeped in slavery and blood magic. There is no reason that it must always have slavery and blood magic in the future.]
It will take more than good not giving up to fix Tevinter. The country is corrupt and vicious. It may not have always been that way, but it has been so for a very long time. The seeds of that wretchedness were sown deep.
[He has exactly zero faith in Tevinter being anything but the worst place in a world full of terrible places. ]
That does not change the fact that it will remain that way indefinitely if no one attempts to change it. Fighting slavery and blood magic is the only means to get rid of it.
[Justice doesn't entirely appreciate how long it takes to change countries by a mortal's standards, but he also doesn't see the value in giving up on changing it entirely.]
The innocent casualties would be immense. [The slaves, the non-mage Tevinters, the soldiers who would have to go in--and that's not even understanding the issue of giving the Qun a chance to barrel through the land of their historical enemies and invade the south. Justice has little to no understanding of geopolitics like that, but he understands that there is no destroying a country's population without killing thousands if not millions of innocents.] It would be better to exhaust all other options before considering it.
The innocent casualties are already immense. Unless you believe any action again them would not result in them instantly turning on their slaves? Most magisters would rather their slaves die than suffer the indignity of having them freed.
[He's seen too many of them. To the magisters, slaves aren't lives- not people just...things. Thing which will be worthless if freed.]
Any kind of revolution will result in innocent casualties, but that does not mean it is not worth it to try avoiding them as much as possible. It is worth it to work up from more discriminate means before resorting to destroying an entire nation.
[Justice seethes at the thought of an entire nation standing on the backs of slaves, but he can't get behind getting all those slaves and non-slave owning citizens killed in a ham-handed attempt to save them. Justice thinks that Dorian and people like him are the best chance Tevinter has to change without all those unnecessary casualties, and it's worth it to give that a chance before even considering leveling the whole place.]
Then you and I shall have to agree to disagree on such matters.
[He'll stick his heels in stubbornly about this until the end of time. In his opinion Tevinter is poison, that needs to be sucked out and left to rot. ]
[It's not like any of them are actually in a position to burn Tevinter to the ground. It's a moot point for now, so Justice doesn't see the need to get angry or fight about it.]
I wished to confirm that you left the planet unscathed, and I have. [This might come off as an abrupt dismissal, but his tone is of someone simply stating a fact. Justice isn't angry or trying to be passive aggressive, just noting that his reason for being here has been met and thus he will probably be leaving.]

A dwarf. Currently he's the Viscount of Kirkwall, from what I understand.

[He doubts he will though. After all, why would he go to Kirkwall?]
I was not aware that there were nations on the surface that had dwarven leaders.

It is a human settlement. He is just...very popular. He has a way with people.
