Are you settling well into the Fleet?

As well as can be expected, given the circumstances. [ A beat. ] Is everyone in the Fleet incessantly helpful, or have I just come at the opportune time? Not that I'm complaining, mind you.

[ Not much, anyway. ]

It depends on the people. For the large part, we understand we are a community of sorts, and attempt to help one another live in this strange place. Some are more considerate than others.

Tell me something interesting. [ Which is a very vague request, but it at least gives Fenris room for interpretation. ]

[That sure is a vague request and Fenris absolutely falters. This is not something he's really learned to do in the scary world of small talk. He looks, for a moment, like a nervous public speaker who just got asked something that isn't on his cue-cards. ]

...I have enjoyed my time here? It is better than my time in Exsilium and miles better than Thedas.

Exsilium.. That was the place you were before. Was it much different from the Fleet?

[ Hopefully this doesn't sound like an interview, he's just very curious. And bored. ]

[At least Fenris doesn't mind talking about it. Parts of it, anyway. ]

Hm. It was a country on Earth or...the remains of it, anyway. A group called the Initiative pulled people from all sorts of worlds- as Atroma does here. They essentially drafted us into a war against the United Earth- who wished to hold dominion over everything, and destroy all that stood in their way.

[There's a pause, because this is always the crazy bit:]

We fought via time travel- going into the past and essentially undoing United Earth's work, weakening them in the past so they did not have the power they would in the present.

[ That's not crazy! That's the fun bit. ]

That's remarkable! How did they achieve time travel? Was it magic, or technology? Or perhaps it was like the situation we are in now where it's unknown?

It was technology.

Though it was beyond my understanding- how it worked. We simply went where we were sent- and did our best to create a more...favourable timeline.

And you were successful?

We were. When the war was over, we were given the option to stay there, and help rebuild, return home or go to another world. We Theosians opted to return home- but two of us ended up here immediately, Marian arrived a little while later.

Two of you left and ended up here together? Does that happen often with places like this? You didn't wish to return home?

No, it is quite rare. It could be that Merrill and I were from the same version of Thedas- perhaps that played into it. She is long gone from here, though.

I did wish to return home at the time. Now? Given what happens to our world, I think I would rather avoid it. I doubt it is going to get any better.

Things do have a tendency to get extraordinarily worse before they get better, it's true.

[ Which is how things seem to be in Thedas in general. Perhaps it's just their origins that are cursed despite what they do. ]

Especially back home, yes. They are showing no signs of stopping any time soon.

Of course not. If it's not Tevinter, it's Orlais. If it's not Orlais, then it's Ferelden in a never ending cycle of skirmish or disagreement. The only differences are where it takes place. Some are more apt to take it to the proverbial battlefield, whilst others battle with status and machination.

Hmm. There's always someone having some kind of fit over something. I would not blame anyone for not wishing to return there.

Trust me, I am well aware of that fact. [ He takes a sip of his wine and sighs. ] Despite its faults, I do miss home. Somewhat terribly, at times.

A lot of people from Thedas I have met feel the same. [Once, he did too, so he can't really blame them. ] You may be fortunate and be sent back sooner rather than later. It all depends on how interesting Atroma finds you.
