_{[ Permission granted, Kirk keyed open the door and stepped in, holding
up his offering. It wasn’t wine, but he made the excuse of it to himself
that it was really all he had in his own stores and he had wanted Fenris to
try a good brandy anyways. His smile was warm, but tired. ]}

Care for a drink?

[Fenris certainly will take a new drink, he supposes. His concern lessens a little, but remains at the edges. He can't help it, he's used to worrying. ]

...Sure, I suppose you have been trying to get me to try something new. Though I can't promise you'll entirely convert me from wine.

Perish the thought.

_{[ He uncorked the bottle and poured for them, more generous for
himself than Fenris - though only by a little. It was a good bottle, one of
his better ones. He only wished he was bringing it out when under a better
mood. He handed one of the glasses to Fenris, holding his up in salute. The
tiredness still coated every motion, every curl of his mouth, more mental
than physical by now though eventually it was hard to tell the difference.
]}

[He shifts, clinking their glasses together. He doesn't drink right away, though, his fingers curl around the glass as he stares at the liquid, then up at Kirk, brow furrowed.]

...Is there something wrong?

_{[ Kirk tossed his back, downing it in several long gulps and setting
the glass down with a clink. He looked at the bottle, clearly debating
another drink. Or perhaps it was an excuse not to look at Fenris just then.
]}

It’s just been a long day. A long week. A long month. Hard conversations always leave me drained no matter how many times I’ve had them.

[That does little to ease his worries, he turns the glass in his hands, shoulders slackening. He thinks he knows where this has come from. He's not completely right, but- ]

...I take it you have been speaking with Pavel.

Chekov?

_{[ In all honesty he SHOULD go talk to him. He wasn’t really doing his
duty as a captain and a friend by not, but he also knew to some degree he
could only say so much. Chekov would need to come to terms on his own and
Kirk couldn’t push him faster. But he should reach out, and stop being a
shit friend and captain. He shook his head though, pouring a little bit
more for himself and going to sit on the bed. ]}

No, I was speaking with Kara. It... was not what I expected to come of that conversation.

Yes, he was very angry with-

[Oh. That...surprises him. Out of all of them, Kara is the least likely to kick up dust over anything. Then again, she did leave for the Goldstone, but Fenris...honestly couldn't blame her for her actions there. ]

Oh. ...Do you wish to talk about it?

_{[ He swirled his drink and sighed, running a hand through his hair.
]}

I don’t know. I don’t believe I’m wrong in what I said. If this was the Enterprise it’s exactly how i would handle the situation, and I don’t know how she expected me to feel differently about it.

_{[ A sip, twisting his head and cracking his neck, mumbling - ]}

God, I hope the next place we land on has a massage parlor.

[Fenris holds back the remark that 'is this was the Enterprise' is usually the opening for Kirk making a drastic mistake and forgetting that the Tourist was in fact, not the Enterprise filled with people who were largely not from his world. He keeps the thought to himself, for now. ]

What did you arugue about? The corpses?

[It's a good guess, in his book. That's what Pavel was so bent out of shape about. ]

I'm not much good at it, but I can rub some tension out of your shoulders if you like. [A pause, then a groan as he realises what that sounded like. ] Not like that.

_{[ He bit his lip around a little smile at that, glancing up at Fenris
and huffing a laugh beneath his breath. ]}

That would be nice thank you.

_{[ He sobered as he went back to his thoughts on the recent argument,
sipping his drink. ]}

At first it was about that, but then it went around to how she left in the middle of the night to go to the Goldstone, about how I couldn’t trust her the same way I had before because of it.

[He takes a pointed sip of his own drink- mostly to show that he's not abandoning it completely. He's surprised that he doesn't mind it, though it's certainly not wine (he'll be an expensive date forever, sorry, Kirk). He makes an appreciative noise anyway, to show it passed muster, before placing it on his bedside table.

He shifts on the bed, to sit behind Kirk, hands working the other man's shoulders. As usual, he's rough and without finesse, but it should at least work some of that tension out as he listens. ]

Oh. So because she left to go to Mon-El. [He's quiet for a moment, stilling in his movements, before starting up again. ] I...honestly could not blame her for her actions. If you and I were on different ships, I would have done the same in a heartbeat.

_{[ He rubbed at his face, sighing into his hands. The trouble was he
couldn’t exactly blame her either. He understood why she went - of course
he would want to check on his loved ones too. Perhaps the real issue was
how she has done it, sneaking away from them. ]}

I’m not saying I don’t understand her feelings and why she went. But we were in a crisis situation. It ended up working out, but what if we had needed her? What if she had died out in the forest and none of us knew before it was to late because she stole away while we weren’t looking?

_{[ He straightened himself and pushed back in Fenris’ hands. ]}

How do I know she won’t do it again? How can I count on her if we face something similar ever again?

True, she should have told us what she was doing. Perhaps she feared we would stop her? She didn't have her powers, it would not have been difficult to detain her. I suppose she thought it better to beg forgiveness than ask permission.

[He continues to work Kirk's muscles, trying to ease the pressure in them. ]

What did she have to say about that? Can she assure you of such things? If not...perhaps she will always be a flight risk- while they are split between two ships.

Her response was to declare I never trusted her in the first place. That I don’t treat her as an equal.

_{[ He paused. ]}

Perhaps there is some truth in that. I won’t deny it can happen and she obviously felt that way. But it wasn’t about trusting her to do her job, it was about trusting her to stay with the crew - the team - in a crisis and being able to count on having her. Powers or no powers.

And that’s just it. How can I look at her and say to myself - Kara has our backs, when we’re in battle? How do I know she won’t abandon us when we might need her most?

_{[ His weight made the bed creak as he leaned back and into Fenris’
chest. ]}

I’ve never had reason to question that before, and I do now, and I hate it.

I don't know, you seem to have a lot of trust in the crew. You...have a tendency to occasionally forget we are not the crew of the Enterprise - but I have never felt that you did not trust me, and I am well aware I have given you plenty of reasons to feel otherwise.

[If any member of the Tourist is likely to go rogue and fuck things up for everyone, it's Fenris. Even he can admit to that. He sighs, resting his head against Kirk's breathing in the scent of his hair. One arm shifts to wrap around his chest- not a full hug but something. ]

I wish I could give you the answer you need. Ultimately, that will have to be her choice. If she wishes to be part of the crew or not. I would miss her a lot, but if it would be easier for her to not have her heart torn in two places, it would be kinder to go to him. Or him to here...I suppose.

[He's not thrilled with the idea. He's never been a fan of Mon-El's. ]

_{[ He closed his eyes, thankful Fenris was allowing him this moment of
physical comfort. He knew it was not the easiest thing for him, and it
meant a lot that he did it. He turned his head, brushing his nose along the
angle of the elf’s cheek, reaching up to run his hands through silver hair.
]}

I told her as much. I don’t want her to go. But I can’t make that decision for her. Like you said, this isn’t the Enteprrise.

_{[ Lips brushed across Fenris’ skin, a gentle touch at the corner of
his lips. He could smell the brandy on them from that one sip, faint and
warm. ]}

[Fenris let out a deep, rumbling hum at the touch, arm tightening around his lover gently, hoping the closeness gave him some comfort. ]

She has to be allowed to choose. It seems we are having a lot of bad luck with that, lately. I...am not sure if Pavel will return to us for good, either.

I think he will. He just... needs time. He has been sheltered from a lot of this, and before the incident with the corpses he killed someone for the first time to defend me. It’s a lot for him, and he needs to handle it in his own time in his own way.

Though that is something I should do soon - talk to him.

_{[ He ducked his head in, nuzzling at him and then switching to nibble
at his lips. ]}

Anything you want to get off your chest?

[There was plenty ON his chest. His argument with Pavel was still very fresh in his mind. The words had cut deep, and the fact Pavel thought him and his fellow Thedosians as brutal and barbaric- without any real understanding of the world they came from did not settle well with him.

He exhales, a thumb brushing the line of Kirk's jaw- eyes closing for a moment because that nibbling is very distracting.]

No. I do not wish to put you in an uncomfortable position between us. I would not do that to you.

_{[ He wanted to protest for a moment, but what would be gained by
pushing his nose into it? He made a soft sound touched by a frown, thumb
brushing along the edge of Fenris’ ear. ]}

All right, but if you want to talk about it, we can. Just know that, all right?

_{[ His teeth worked along Fenris’ jaw, occasionally bumping him with
his nose. ]}

[Nothing much at all. And Fenris really didn't want to put Kirk in a place where he felt his loyalties were divided. He tilts his head, closing his eyes and letting out a low hum at the treatment. That, at least, was pleasant.]

I know, thank you. It will solve itself in time, or it won't. We will have to see.

_{[ He nodded, accepting that, and honestly a little grateful to not
have to talk about it. He was worried, but he just didn’t think he could
handle more emotional land mines today. He turned his head, gaze falling on
the book Fenris had left open when he’d obviously gotten up to answer the
door. He patted this thigh for his attention. ]}

What book were you reading? Anything interesting?

[He smiles, turning to pick it up. ]

It is one of the books in the library, on Earth legends. I was curious when you told me about the end of the world wolf. They are...actually interesting reads.

Oh yes, anything about mythology is pretty fascinating. Norse mythology in particular has a lot of good ones as I recall. Eastern mythology is quite rich as well, especially Chinese, Japanese, and Hindu.

_{[ He made himself comfortable against Fenris, taking as much time as the other would let him to just lean back and be physically against him. ]}
